Mount Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame
The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo is one of Australia's most celebrated outback events, attracting competitors and spectators from across the country and around the world each August. Since its humble beginnings in 1959, the rodeo has grown into the largest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere, becoming a symbol of the pioneering spirit, resilience and community pride that define Mount Isa.
Originally known as the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo, the event was first held at Kalkadoon Park on the Barkly Highway. Organised by dedicated local volunteers, it began as a community fundraiser and a celebration of the region's strong cattle and station heritage. Over the decades, the rodeo has evolved into an internationally recognised event while remaining deeply connected to the volunteers, competitors and families who have helped build its remarkable legacy.
Located within the Isa Experience Museum, the Rodeo Hall of Fame celebrates the people who have shaped this iconic event. Explore historic photographs, trophies, championship buckles, memorabilia, original equipment and fascinating stories of legendary cowboys, cowgirls, stock contractors, pick-up men, protection athletes and the many volunteers whose passion has kept the rodeo alive for more than six decades.
Whether you're a lifelong rodeo enthusiast or discovering the sport for the first time, the Rodeo Hall of Fame offers a unique insight into the history, traditions and unforgettable characters that have made the Mount Isa Rodeo a true Australian icon.
