BOODJAMULLA LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK
A jewel in the crown in the NorthWest, this million-year-old gorge is a true oasis surrounded by the barren rocky features usually associated with this deserted area of Queensland.
Strictly managed and operated by National Parks rangers, the 282 000 hectare park stretches from the gorge, west to the Northern Territory border, south to the world heritage listed Riversleigh fossil fields and north to Bowthorn Station.
Location
Boodjamulla Lawn Hill National Park is situated approximately 400km north-west of Mount Isa and 220km south-west of Burketown. Unsealed roads cover the last 280km from Mount Isa and the entire distance from Burketown. These roads can become impassable for extended periods after rain and travel by 4WD vehicle is recommended. Vehicles towing caravans should travel via the Burke and Wills Roadhouse.
Park Facilities
There is a camping area with toilets and showers situated adjacent to Lawn Hill Creek. A camping permit needs to be purchased and a booking made in writing to ranger-in-charge prior to visiting the park. Park Rangers are stationed at the park. Ice and minor supplies are available at Adel's Grove which is located 10kms from the park. Fuel can be obtained from Gregory Downs Hotel situated 100km east of the park.
Visitors to the park's camping area can take a first-hand look at the gorge and the creek via canoes which can be hired on site, administered by Adel's Grove. The canoe journey is relatively easy for all levels of fitness and is a stunning way to explore.
A special 3-day/2night all inclusive safari tour, which includes Riversleigh Fossil Fields plus a chance to
explore the lush tropical surroundings of spectacularly beautiful Boodjamulla Lawn Hill National Park, can be
accessed from Mount Isa with Yididi Aboriginal Guided Tours.
