Kalkatungu Guided Tours

Kalkatungu Aboriginal Guided Tours invite you to join them in Australia's bold and beautiful outback. Their tours feature the spectacular Boodjamulla Lawn Hill Gorge National Park and Miyumba Riversleigh World Heritage Fossil Fields. Your tour guide is a member of the Waanyi Aboriginal tribe, the traditional owners of these lands. The fully-inclusive guided tours provide an excellent interpretation of the Aboriginal culture of the region and of the local history, geology, flora and fauna.

Day 1

7.30am your tour guide and tour concierge will meet you at your accommodation for a 8.00am departure. Your Safari will take you through a number of outback stations enroute to the world heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields. Morning tea will be at the picturesque Seymour River and lunch at the Gregory River. Take in the aspiring bird life or just relax in the shade of the Paperbark trees.

After lunch, discover the world heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields, where the bones offossilised animals, that occupied this area 20 million years ago, have been unearthed. Your day will conclude when you arrive at Adel's Grove where your accommodation awaits you. Adel's Grove, also known as the Frenchman's Gardens, is a stand of exotic trees established in the 1930's.

Day 2

Today you will need to rise early for a full day tour of Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park. An early morning bushwalk will take you to the Island Stack where you can admire spectacular views, and then travel onto the Wild Dog Dreaming Aboriginal Paintings. After lunch take in the fabulous view of the upper and middle gorge and then board your canoe and paddle your way between ochre coloured cliffs. Your destination: the natural spa, a great place to relax after all the exercise!

On arrival back at camp relax with a glass of wine and nibbles before your evening meal. Enjoy the tall tales told by your enthusiastic tour guides around the campfire.

Day 3

After breakfast, the rest of the morning you are free to fill in your time with one of the many activities - swimming, canoeing, bush walking, fishing or just relax with one of our books on the history of Adel's Grove. After morning tea, you will return to Mount Isa, stopping at the Seymour River for lunch. Arrive back in Mount Isa at approx. 3pm. Your afternoon is at leisure - time to rest, explore or do some shopping.
